Chesapeake McDonald’s closes dining room after fire from discarded cigarette

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A fire caused by a discarded cigarette at a McDonald’s in Chesapeake has caused the restaurant to close its dining room until repairs are completed.

The McDonald’s at 805 Volvo Parkway reported a fire just before 8 p.m. Tuesday. Employees said they smelled smoke inside the restaurant.

Firefighters found a fire inside a wall near a doorway, according to Chesapeake Police Department. The fire had extended upward toward the roof. Crews removed sections of the wall to expose and extinguish the fire…
