Mexican man, previously deported 5 times, arrested in Illinois

CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) – A Mexican national with an extensive criminal record has been sentenced to spend a year in prison for unlawfully re-entering the U.S. after previously being deported 5 times.

According to the United States Department of Justice, Manuel Alberto Cortes Cuan, 38, was arrested in Lyons, Illinois, on June 17, 2025, as part of a theft investigation.

Authorities said when police approached Cortes Cuan’s vehicle, he “vigorously resisted arrest,” injuring both himself and two police officers…
