Chicago – A 54-year-old passenger on a northbound CTA bus near 57th Street and Ashland Avenue turned the tables on three masked teenagers who tried to rob him late Saturday night. Instead of surrendering his belongings, the man fought back with a knife he carried in his bag, leaving two of the suspects injured and in police custody. The confrontation unfolded around 11:22 p.m. aboard the bus. Police said the three male offenders, wearing ski masks, approached the victim and demanded his property. They began taking items from him, including a chain necklace that officers later recovered.
The Robbery Turns Violent
According to investigators, the situation escalated quickly once the suspects started removing the victim’s belongings. The man reached into his bag and pulled out a sharp object. A struggle followed, during which the teenagers struck the victim before fleeing the bus.
Bus operators triggered a panic alarm that brought officers to the scene under a “person with a knife” call. Police recovered the weapon at the location and began piecing together what had occurred.
Second Call Leads to Suspects
While officers were still on the bus, a separate 911 call came in from the 5600 block of South Justine Street. A caller reported that his 13-year-old brother had been stabbed in the hand. Responding officers quickly linked the two incidents…
