Police in a north suburb of Chicago asked drivers to avoid part of the area after pavement buckled on Tuesday afternoon amid an extreme heat wave.
Around 4:30 p.m., Wheeling Police and Fire Departments said southbound Elmhurst Road at Vera Lane was closed due to pavement buckling.
Video shared with NBC Chicago showed police directing traffic around a large crack in the pavement stretching across traffic lanes in the area.
