Chicago – Federal prosecutors have detailed a chilling sequence in which three alleged members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua abducted an 18-year-old man from a South Side park, killed him, and then contacted his mother from abroad to disclose the location of his body. The allegations center on events that unfolded this spring and were outlined Wednesday by U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros during a Washington press conference. Court documents describe how the victim was taken from Meyering Park, held captive, beaten, and left in an abandoned building. His mother received the call the next day.
Abduction From a Public Park
Prosecutors say the victim was walking near the basketball courts at Meyering Park in the 7100 block of South King Drive when the three men seized him. They forced him into a vehicle and drove him to an apartment, where his hands were bound and he was held for hours.
From there, the group moved him to a vacant building. Inside, the men beat him repeatedly before firing multiple shots into his body. An autopsy later determined that blunt force trauma from the beating caused his death, even though he had been shot several times.
Discovery After a Phone Call From Venezuela
The following morning, the victim’s mother contacted Chicago police after receiving a call from Venezuela. An associate of the alleged kidnappers told her where to find her son.
