Cook County’s Property Tax Refund Backlog Still 77,552 Cases — Bulk Payouts Blocked

Cook County still has 77,552 property-tax refunds waiting to go out—down just 1,928 cases from the prior week—as defects in the county’s iasWorld tax system continue to block bulk payouts.

According to the IPTS Weekly Status Report (06/05/2026), Production is rated red and the Treasurer still cannot issue refunds in large batches. Staff must check each refund individually before it can go out, meaning progress is slow.

The largest pile-up is Property Tax Appeal Board refunds—cases where owners successfully challenged their assessments. About 50,779 Property Tax Appeal Board refunds are still queued. Another 8,381 Certificate of Error refunds and 8,261 Specific Objection refunds are also waiting…
