Community rallies to support longtime Evanston service employee severely burned in accident

Community members have donated more than $34,000 to a GoFundMe to support Michael Zeff, a longtime Evanston service industry employee who suffered severe burns in an accident on July 1. Zeff remains in the Burn Intensive Care Unit at Stroger Hospital in Chicago.

He will likely remain there for at least the next few weeks, family members said, and will be out of work after leaving the hospital for at least three months while recovering.

“The love and support from the community is so palpable and so inspiring,” said Marty Zeff, Michael’s brother and business partner. “Makes you want to stay in this community.”

The two brothers are the faces behind Roger & Rose, a tiki pop-up, named for the Zeffs’ grandparents, that regularly operates out of the Ward Eight bar most Tuesday nights…
