3 hospitalized, including 2 in critical condition, following house fire in South Shore, authorities say

CHICAGO (WGN) — Two people were listed in critical condition, including a 1-year-old boy, and another person was hospitalized following a fire Saturday evening in South Shore, according to authorities.

Authorities say the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Fire Department responded to a call of an accidental fire at a residence in the 6800 block of South Merrill Avenue around 6:30 p.m.

Firefighters on scene extinguished the fire, but authorities say a 29-year-old man was taken to University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition with burns on his body, and a 1-year-old boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition with burns to the body.
