Amtrak Midwest cancellations from Chicago hub to continue through Aug. 21

CHICAGO — While no advisories have yet been posted on its website or social media feed, Amtrak has canceled additional trains on its Midwest corridors over the next two weeks.

The moves on five routes follow cancellations that began Aug. 4 on three routes because of a lack of serviceable locomotives [see “Amtrak locomotive shortage …,” Trains.com, Aug. 6, 2026].

An internal advisory obtained by Trains lists the latest cancellations, which correspond to instances in which those departures show as “sold out” on the Amtrak website. It appears that already-booked passengers are being accommodated on chartered buses…
