Chair With Restraints Found In Basement Of Mount Greenwood Church A ‘Prank,’ Officials Say

MOUNT GREENWOOD — A chair with ropes tied around its armrests was found in the closet of a Mount Greenwood Catholic church this week, alarming parishioners and neighbors — but church officials say they now believe the set up was a prank.

The chair, which was positioned in front of a television in a small closet, was discovered in the basement of St. Christina Roman Catholic Church, 3342 W. 111th St., Tuesday night by a group using the church basement, Rev. Ryan Brady and school Principal Carrie Spano said in a letter to school families Wednesday afternoon.

Parish officials immediately called the police, who responded to the church around 5 p.m. Tuesday, a police spokesperson confirmed. A police investigation was launched, according to Saint Christina and the Archdiocese of Chicago, although a police spokesperson declined to answer questions about the investigation…
