Evanston man charged with multiple felonies, accused of selling drugs near Albany Care

An Evanston man has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies for selling drugs on the same block as Albany Care, the psychiatric rehab facility at 901 Maple Ave., the Evanston Police Department announced Friday.

Evanston police arrested Andre Riley, 63, of 900 block of Hinman Ave., after executing search warrants for his home and vehicle in southeast Evanston, where officers recovered two firearms and an unstated amount of ammunition, drugs and money. “Riley is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a firearm,” the police statement reads.

The investigation followed a tip police received in August that Riley was selling crack cocaine “in the area of the 900 block of Maple Avenue,” where Albany Care is located. Area residents have talked at public meetings for years about seeing people from outside the facility come to the area and seemingly sell drugs to its patients, and another Evanston man was arrested in October 2024 and charged with multiple felonies after four controlled purchases by investigators…
