Chicago’s prolific daytime scooter thief has struck again. And again. And again. And now we have video of him in action.
CPD issued its first community alert about the summerlong crime pattern last week, identifying seven cases on the North Side. But CWB Chicago readers have been telling us about the problem for months, with reported thefts stretching from downtown to the Northwest Side and Lakeview.
According to police, the thief, a White man who appears to be in his 50s and typically wears a fanny pack, disables scooters by cutting into their ignition systems, bypassing the key-start function, and riding away. All seven thefts listed in CPD’s community alert happened during daylight hours…
