Four single-family homes are planned for the former Mount Greenwood Evangelical Lutheran Church site at 10901-10911 S. Trumbull Ave., with asking prices expected to start at $800,000. CK Construction says it plans to demolish the shuttered church and begin construction within 30 to 60 days.
The property was sold to CK Construction in July, according to Block Club Chicago, which cited church owner Matt Klabisch. Property records do not reflect the sale price or cost of the transaction, and formal Department of Buildings permits for the site had not been issued as of the outlet’s reporting.
A Congregation That Dwindled for Years
Mount Greenwood Evangelical Lutheran Church, founded in 1943 and a member of Northern Illinois District 22, closed in June after years of declining membership and financial struggles, according to a Beverly Review report cited by Block Club Chicago. The report said the church had 133 confirmed members and average weekly attendance of 34 in 2016; by 2025, it had 40 confirmed members and average weekly attendance of 11.
The congregation’s closure followed that long decline and its reported financial struggles. The property was subsequently sold to CK Construction, which is planning four homes for the site.
What’s Being Built
Block Club Chicago reported details for two of the four planned homes. One is designed with 2,550 square feet, four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bathroom and an attached garage. Another calls for 2,912 square feet, four bedrooms, two full bathrooms and one half bathroom. CK Construction has sold one of the four homes, but final designs, dimensions and prices for all four have not been independently verified.
Part of a Broader Pattern Across Chicago
Other former church sites in Chicago have also been redeveloped as housing. In Logan Square, a former Lutheran church and adjoining school on North Richmond Street were demolished and replaced with four single-family homes, according to Block Club Chicago. Chicago YIMBY reported that permits for the four homes were secured in November 2025; each permit described a two-story house with a basement and detached two-car garage, with a reported work cost of $903,000…
