A 19-year-old who joined two juveniles in an attack that left a 62-year-old CTA bus passenger unconscious and critically injured last year has been sentenced to six months of probation, court records show.
Larry Gilkey was riding a northbound bus in the 700 block of South Cicero Avenue when he was attacked around 5:30 p.m. on December 16, according to Chicago police and his relatives. A family member said Gilkey had gone out to buy cigarettes when he encountered then-18-year-old Lyndale Roberts, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. The encounter escalated into a group attack that left Gilkey hospitalized and in a medically induced coma.
Prosecutors said in charging documents that Gilkey suffered “significant head trauma and loss of consciousness” after being struck by the group, including being kicked and stomped while on the bus.
