A Near West Side parolee is charged with violently robbing women of jewelry as they walked in Lincoln Park and Little Italy, in a string of crimes that began this summer and continued through last month, prompting two community alerts from Chicago police.
Devontay Murray, 29, lived on the same block where one of the earliest robberies occurred, but he is not charged with that crime or another on the North Side that remains unsolved.
Altogether, CPD has linked six armed robberies to the jewelry robbery pattern, and Murray is now charged with four of them, police say, including the first, which targeted a 44-year-old woman around 6:30 a.m. on July 30 in the 1200 block of West Taylor Street.
