A former U.S. Postal Service employee has pleaded guilty to stealing customers’ checks from the mail, altering them, and depositing them into her personal bank account, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced.
Teneshya Harris, 37, of Chicago, was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to felony theft by deception, Raoul said Friday. Harris was ordered to pay $6,400 in restitution, of which she paid $1,500 in court Thursday and must pay the remaining balance before her probation ends, according to Raoul’s office.
Raoul said Harris took checks from the mail and either made the checks payable to herself or altered them to increase the dollar amounts before endorsing and depositing them into her personal bank account, according to the attorney general’s office…
