Chicago, IL – Illinois residents preparing for the 2026-27 winter season could see warmer-than-normal temperatures across much of the state, including Chicago, Rockford, Peoria and Springfield. However, forecasters warn that snowstorms, icy roads and periods of dangerous cold remain possible despite the milder seasonal outlook.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), its seasonal outlook issued Thursday, October 15, favors above-normal temperatures across Illinois from November 2026 through January 2027. The strongest warm signals extend across the northern United States and Great Lakes region.
