Man critical after being stabbed on CTA platform; charges pending

CHICAGO — A 48-year-old man is in critical condition after being stabbed on a CTA Red Line platform Monday night.

Officers responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of North State Street around 10:30 p.m. and found two men in a physical struggle on the CTA platform.

According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates the two men were in a verbal altercation while on the train which led to the physical altercation.

A 31-year-old man produced a sharp object and made contact with the 48-year-old man, police said. The 48-year-old sustained multiple lacerations to the back and neck and was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Police said the 31-year-old sustained lacerations to the hands and was placed into custody. He was transported to Rush Hospital in fair condition.

Charges are pending. Area Three Detectives are investigating.
