Chicago criminal activity increasing as migrants face multiple charges in Oak Brook incidents

Six Venezuelan and Chilean were arrested in for committing retail theft, amassing over $10,000 worth of stolen merchandise from a Macy’s department store situated in the suburb of Oak Brook, Chicago.

The Oakbrook Center Macy’s, known for being a repeated target of thefts and burglaries involving migrants, experienced two separate incidents on Tuesday, drawing attention to the growing issue of criminal behavior within this demographic.

Oak Brook Chief of Police, Brian Strockis, highlighted the severity of the problem, stating, “I believe that six felony arrests in one day illustrate that migrant criminal activity is a real problem,” in an official statement released on Wednesday.

In one incident preceding 6:30 p.m., 20-year-old Nicolas Paillacan-Bravo and 34-year-old David Saez-Vega were charged with burglary and retail theft. Both men, originating from Chile and currently residing in Chicago, utilized a magnet to remove anti-theft devices from merchandise. Subsequently, they concealed 54 items in suitcases taken from the luggage department, with an estimated value of $10,155.
