Surge of violence plagues Southside Chicago, weekend shootings leaves 1 dead several injured
A wave of violence occured on the South Side of Chicago, leaving one person dead and 8 others injured in a series of shootings and an armed robbery during Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
Multiple incidents occurred across the South Side neighborhoods of Englewood, Roseland, and South Shore, with Chicago police reporting a string of shootings taking place over a span of approximately two hours.
Tragedy struck in Englewood as police discovered a lifeless body inside a pickup truck in the 6900 block of South Parnell Avenue just after midnight on Sunday. The vehicle had crashed into a fence and a tree, and upon approaching, officers found an unidentified man shot in the chest. Despite efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Earlier that evening, in Roseland, a 53-year-old man fell victim to a shooting, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in the 300 block of West 106th Street. The assailant, described as an unknown man on foot, approached the victim on a sidewalk, fired multiple shots, and fled the scene. The injured man was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.
