Delivery driver shot, killed Monday in Englewood on city’s South Side

CHICAGO — A delivery driver was able to tell Chicago police he heard gunfire and felt pain before dying at the hospital of gunshot wounds to the chest suffered Monday night in the Englewood neighborhood on the city’s South Side.

According to police, the 53-year-old man was driving north while delivering food in the 5700 block of South Sangamon Street around 6:30 p.m. Monday when he heard shots and felt pain. Police say the man continued driving and hit a parked car before coming to a stop.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center emergency room, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not said if the delivery driver was the intended target of the shooting.

Nobody has been placed in custody, and Area One detectives are investigating. Anyone with information that could lead to an arrest is urged to contact the Chicago Police Department immediately.
