Chicago man charged after trying to steal car from dealership

CHICAGO — A Chicago man was arrested Sunday afternoon after he allegedly broke into a used car dealership in Elmhurst and attempted to steal a vehicle.

According to the Elmhurst Police Department, officers responded to the WIN Auto Plaza on the 700 block of West Lake Street on reports of a vehicle theft in progress just before 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Two employees had reportedly arrived at the used car dealership to drop off a vehicle when they noticed a man in the rear parking lot stealing a blue Infiniti coupe belonging to the business.

One employee called 911 while the other followed the stolen car in their vehicle. The suspect mistakenly turned onto a dead-end street at Mary Court and Junior Terrace .

The employee attempted to block the Infiniti with his vehicle while the suspect accelerated to pass the employee. The vehicles collided and the suspect ran from the scene.

Upon arrival, officers set up a perimeter to search for the suspect using a police K9 and public safety drone. The suspect, identified as Joshua Pickett, 19, of Chicago, was taken into custody shortly after their arrival.
