Senn High School sees increased police presence day after shooting near campus killed student, wounded 2 others

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Students return to Senn High School this morning with heavy hearts after one of their classmates was killed and two others wounded in a shooting Wednesday afternoon .

Daveon Gibson, 16, and two other boys were walking after school when they were shot by someone who got out of a car a couple of blocks from the Edgewater high school.

Gibson died at the hospital while the 16-year-old was listed in grave condition and his 15-year-old friend was  in good condition.

Police Superintendent Larry Snelling vowed Wednesday to find those responsible.

“We are committed to making sure that we get to the bottom of these types of crimes, and we take these people into custody,” Snelling said.

Mayor Brandon Johnson had a message for those responsible.

“It has to end: the harm, the chaos and the trauma that’s being caused by individuals who don’t value life.

Adam Whipple was picking up his daughter after school when they saw an ambulance and heard there had been an incident near Senn. At dropoff this morning, he shared that some of her friends were staying home today.
