Suburban rescue save 15 dogs from hoarding case

NORTHBROOK, Ill. — A suburban rescue jumped in to save 15 dogs from a hoarding situation in Chicago.

Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) was made aware of a hoarding case recently and went to help.

Inside, many of the 15 dogs never left the home amid filthy conditions.

“There was lots of feces, pee spots,” said Tori Appelt with Border Tails Rescue. “I don’t want to say they weren’t loved — but they were dirty, had a lot of matting and open wounds.”

Because CACC was at max capacity, they reached out to Border Tails Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue based in Northbrook.

Border Tails Rescue contacted Precious Cargo to help with transportation.

The dogs are doing okay and Appelt is hoping they get adopted once they’re feeling a little better.

“A lot of them are cattle dog mixes, border collie mixes and a corgi mix — those breeds typically get adopted out in one to three months,” Appelt said. “But it could be longer or shorter, it’s about how the community responds and if they’re able to find their perfect home.”
