Man sentenced to 90 days behind bars for fatal hit and run in Will County

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) –A Calumet City man, accused of failing to stop for a 2018 crash in Will County that led to the death of another man, faces 90 days behind bars.

Carrifthian Lester was driving a truck that hit an SUV along I-80 near I-355 near southwest suburban New Lenox in January 2018, according to investigators.

Will County prosecutors said Lester then drove away from the accident scene.

Police said the driver of the SUV, Aaron Scofield, was killed when another driver couldn’t avoid hitting the SUV.

Prosecutors said Lester was sentenced to 180 days behind bars, after he agreed to plead guilty to failing to report an accident, but now prosecutors said Lester will only have to serve 90 days.

Scofield’s step-father, Jim Brodnicki, tells WBBM the family did not agree with the plea deal and called the sentence pathetic.
