Bellwood man accused of beating, robbing victim on Blue Line train

CHICAGO — Charges have been filed against a Bellwood man accused of beating and robbing a man while inside a CTA train car on the Near West Side.

According to Chicago police, 34-year-old Benjamin Rivers has been charged with one felony count of robbery and one misdemeanor count of battery causing bodily harm.

Police say the charges stem from a robbery that allegedly unfolded just before 5 p.m. inside a Blue Line train in the 400 block of South Damen Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say Rivers allegedly beat a 35-year-old man inside the train car before forcefully taking his property.

Police say Rivers was quickly located by offciers and taken into custody less than 30 minutes after the alleged robbery.

Rivers appeared in court on Friday for a detention hearing.
