Gunfire erupts in Chicago’s Calumet Heights neighborhood as police officer attacked
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a frightening incident took place in Chicago’s Calumet Heights neighborhood as gunfire erupted which was aimed at an off-duty Chicago Police officer.
According to police reports, the officer, while pumping gas at a Shell station located at the corner of 95th Street and Stony Island Avenue around 4:15 a.m., found himself confronted by four armed men who emerged from a white Nissan. A harrowing chase ensued as the officer attempted to evade the assailants, ultimately leading to a tense shootout.
Remarkably, the officer managed to escape unharmed, and no injuries were reported from the incident. However, the intensity of the exchange was evident as sources revealed that a staggering seventeen shots were fired by the attackers before they fled the scene.
The aftermath of the confrontation left the gas station, situated in a strip mall near a bustling entrance to the Bishop Ford Freeway, and a nearby bank cordoned off by authorities. The suspects’ vehicle was later discovered abandoned in the Calumet Police District, located approximately two miles south and a mile west of the initial shooting location.
