Alderman Taylor urges collaborative efforts amidst alarming increase in Chicago vehicle thefts

In the wake of a startling surge in car theft incidents, Chicago Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor has sounded the alarm, urging decisive action to combat the escalating crisis gripping the city. Last year’s record-breaking levels of auto theft have spilled over into the current year, with perpetrators displaying no signs of relenting.

Recent statistics paint a grim picture, with an average of 65 vehicles disappearing daily from the streets of Chicago. The gravity of the situation was emphasized by a particularly brazen theft incident involving a white car from south suburban Riverdale. Within a day, the stolen vehicle resurfaced in Chicago, entangled in a collision with another vehicle in the bustling 6300 block of South Stewart.

Despite a marginal dip compared to the same timeframe last year, the city witnessed a staggering total of 457 car thefts from January 29 to February 4. Alderwoman Taylor, representing Chicago’s 20th Ward where the aforementioned collision transpired, emphasized the imperative for action beyond mere complaints.
