Illinois Coalition for Immigrant Rights calls for policy changes
A gathering of advocates convened outside the Thompson Center in downtown Chicago on Thursday, advocating for comprehensive immigration reform.
Led by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, participants demanded an immediate cessation of deportations. Emphasizing the urgency of their cause, the coalition underscored President Biden’s mandate to address the needs of marginalized communities who contributed significantly to his electoral victory.
Governor JB Pritzker, alongside U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky and Marie Newman, lent their voices to the chorus of support for immigration reform. The coalition outlined key policy recommendations, urging Congress to enact pathways to citizenship for essential workers, DACA recipients, and TPS beneficiaries.
Following the rally, demonstrators planned to march through downtown Chicago, amplifying their call for meaningful legislative action.
