Having issues tuning in Chicago’s Ch. 2? Don’t worry, it’s an easy fix

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago’s Channel 2 has made a change to the way its signal is delivered to televisions that use antennas to acquire free TV off the airwaves.

People who use this old-school model may have noticed the CBS television station is missing as they’re clicking around. CBS will be a big destination this Sunday when the network broadcasts the Super Bowl.

CBS (no relation to WBBM Newsradio) is now delivering its signal via NEXGEN TV, and TVs that rely on an antenna connection must be rescanned to capture and display Channel 2.

“If we bought a TV forty years ago, if you took a knob and switched it to 2, you were done,” says Tom Schnecke, Channel 2’s director of operations and engineering. “When you get a TV out of the box now, it knows nothing. It’s a computer with a screen.”

The good news: A simple, automatic process will correct the issue.

On your remote, hit menu and “Auto Channel Scan” and the television will scan for locally available channels and update them. Channel 2 will be among them.
