Witness says driver failed to stop for several fire trucks: ‘He thought he could beat them’
A serious incident occured on the streets of Bronzeville Saturday when five firefighters were among six individuals severely injured in a collision involving a Chicago Fire Department (CFD) truck and a car. The Chicago Fire Department reported that the crash occurred near the intersection of West 47th Street and South Federal Street.
Eyewitnesses to the tragic event recounted a scene of devastation. Rickey Dawson, a witness at the scene, vividly described the moment when several fire trucks, their sirens blaring, approached the intersection at 47th and State streets. Despite the unmistakable warning signals, the driver of another vehicle attempted to navigate through the intersection, refusing to yield to the emergency vehicles.
“The sound was like a bomb,” remarked Dawson, underscoring the magnitude of the impact. The collision resulted in a violent crash between a Chicago fire truck and a white Chevy Impala, leaving both vehicles severely damaged. The front of the car crumpled under the force of the collision, sending its driver and five firefighters to the hospital with serious injuries.
