Chicago’s top cop admits he was wrong about CPD’s murder solve rate

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling has owned up to a numbers mistake after he boasted during two public events that the department solved most of the city’s January murders, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The paper reported that, during those meetings, Snelling told Chicagons the police department had a 76% clearance rate for January.

Snelling later clarified that only three cases from this year were cleared, with 16 other cleared cases stemming from crimes that were committed in previous years.

It’s not known if the three cleared cases from 2024 led to arrests and charges.

The Chicago Police Department has, historically, faced challenges in making arrests.
