Community stunned as investigation unravels mysterious circumstances surrounding body discovery
Chicago authorities launched an intensive investigation Monday evening following the unsettling discovery of human remains in the basement of a residence within the West Ridge neighborhood.
According to police reports, the alarming find occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. at the address 2835 W. Fitch Ave., situated between California and Francisco avenues and in close proximity to Touhy Avenue. Initial assessments categorized the uncovered remains as “possible human,” prompting swift action from law enforcement officials.
Investigators combed through the premises throughout the day, finally concluding their on-site examination at around 5:30 p.m. Prior to the completion of the operation, personnel from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office were summoned to the scene to facilitate the removal of an intact body from the premises.
Shock enveloped the neighborhood as revelations emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding the grim discovery. Neighbors revealed that the homeowner had passed away approximately a week prior, prompting family members to convene at the residence on Monday to initiate the process of clearing out belongings.
