Chicago Uber, Lyft drivers set to protest working conditions, low wages
On Valentine’s Day, as many plan romantic outings and dinner dates, rideshare drivers in Chicago are gearing up for a strike to draw attention to their grievances. Organizers, including Steven Everett, a long-time rideshare driver, are calling on their fellow drivers to halt their services for the day, demanding better working conditions, increased safety measures, and higher wages.
According to Everett, who has been driving for rideshare apps in Chicago for over eight years, the demands stem from the grueling work schedules and safety concerns faced by drivers. “We need a little love, too,” Everett emphasized, pointing to the drastic increase in working hours and the rising incidents of carjackings targeting rideshare drivers.
Mag Gonda, another driver for Uber and Lyft, echoed Everett’s sentiments, highlighting the financial struggles faced by drivers due to declining rates and mounting expenses. The strike aims to bring attention to these issues and compel the companies to address the concerns of their workforce.
