As Many as 25 Cars Vandalized in Southside Chicago

Chicago Police Investigate Wave of Vehicle Damage in Early Morning Incident

The tranquility of the South Loop neighborhood was shattered as Chicago police reported a vandalism spree targeting parked cars. According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday morning, around 2 a.m., within the 1600 block of South Indiana Street.

Eyewitnesses recounted a distressing scene where three individuals emerged from a black four-door sedan and systematically smashed the driver’s side windows of approximately 20 to 25 vehicles parked along the block. The perpetrators left behind a trail of destruction, with shattered glass and debris strewn across the road, as depicted in photos and video footage captured at the scene.

Local Chicago resident Rylan Trapani expressed profound dismay, highlighting the unsettling impact of the incident on the community. “It’s very unnerving,” Trapani lamented, emphasizing the violation of a space where residents should feel secure. The sheer scale of the damage, described by Trapani as “window after window, every car on the block,” underscores the severity of the situation.
