( WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Social worker Anjanette Young and her supporters say they are still fighting for reforms five years after Chicaco police wrongly raided her home.
Ald. Maria Hadden, 49th, sponsored a reform ordinance after the botched 2019 raid that left social worker Anjanette Young naked while police mistakenly searched her home. The measure has not passed the council.
At a news conference outside City Hall, Young said there have been a few changes, and discussion about a federal consent decree covering the Chicago Police Department. But it’s not enough, she said.
Hadden said CPD conducts around 1,500 raids every year, most of them at Black and Brown residences. Nearly half fail to yield a single arrest, she said.
Feb. 21 will be the fifth anniversary of the botched raid that pushed her into the limelight. She says she will leave town to lessen her personal trauma.
