Arrest made in connection with armed robbery of pizza delivery driver in Evanston

EVANSTON , Ill. — Charges have been filed against an Evanston man accused of participating in the robbery of a pizza delivery driver in early December.

According to Evanston police, 18-year-old Samnang Toem has been charged with one count of armed robbery.

Officers say the charge stems from Toem’s alleged role in the hold-up of the delivery driver in the 2200 block of Foster Street, in Evanston, justbefore midnight on Sunday, Dec. 10.

Police say the victim was called to the area for a delivery, but when he got out of his car, he was approached by three individuals. One of the three individuals then allegedly pulled out a knife and announced the robbery.

The victim ran back to his car, but the second individual was able to reach into the vehicle and grab the victim’s cellphone. Police say the third individual then joined the second in demanding the passcode to the victim’s phone.
