CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — First came the “Cows on Parade,” then came the police K9s; now, Chicagoans will need to get ready for the “Flight of the Butterflies.”
The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum on Thursday unveiled a series of 29 butterfly sculptures, which will land all across Chicago later this summer.
“This unique project combines nature, art and storytelling,” said museum CEO Erin Amico. “These sculptures are over 6 feet in diameter. Art and storytelling are powerful tools to ignite our imagination and inspire ideas around how we can connect and champion the natural world.”
Amico said public art has always been a big part of Chicago’s landscape.
“Public art provides a great way to not only elevate and amplify Chicagoan stories but also to drive greater visibility,” she said. “Each one of the 29 butterflies is unique. They’re all vibrant and different. Please find them all.”
Chicago’s artists, Amico added, are the “city’s greatest ambassadors.”
Fifteen of the 29 butterflies will be featured in Chicago parks; the rest will be set up along Michigan Avenue.
