15-year-old boy accused in North Side carjacking facing felony charge

CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection with a North Side carjacking

Chicago police say the teen, who has not been identified due to his age, has been charged with one felony count of vehicular hijacking.

The charge stems from an incident that allegedly unfolded in the 5700 block of North Wayne Avenue, in Edgewater, on Sunday.

Officers say the teen boy allegedly took a 24-year-old man’s car by force, just after noon.

Authorities quickly caught up with the teen in the 6000 block of South Albany Avenue, in Chicago Lawn, where he was taken into custody less than two hours after the alleged carjacking.

Authorities have not provided details on when the teen is expected in court.
