World Dumpling Fest returns to Chicago this weekend

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — World Dumpling Fest is returning to Chicago this weekend to celebrate cultural diversity throughout the city.

If you’ve ever wanted to try dumplings from Poland, Japan, or Latin America, well now you can try them all at the fifth annual World Dumpling Fest.

“We’re playing a little bit to include anything with dough that you boil or fry and it’s got something inside. Pierogi, we’ve got Chinese pot stickers, Indian samosas. Emparogi, they actually combine a pierogi with an empanada. But also Japanese. They’re called mochinut doughnuts,” Executive Director of the Chicago Cultural Alliance Monica Felix explained.

The festival’s take on dumplings will bring in restaurants and vendors from around the city.

“We’re looking at 10 different types of dumplings that we’re selling from 10 vendors all around the city.”

Felix said along with tons of good food, there will also be nine hours of cultural performances.

“They’re all partners who are coming from centers of cultural heritage around the city putting on music performances, dance performances. You’re going to see a lot of stuff that you don’t normally see just around the city.”
