KDPS: 2nd suspect in shooting caught near Chicago, charged with open murder

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police in Kalamazoo say a second person has been arrested and charged with open murder after a shooting at an apartment complex in July.

Deyonte Armstrong, 21, was arraigned Friday on charges of open murder and three weapons counts, according to a release from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. Bond was denied.

Police say he was taken into custody near Chicago by the U.S. Marshals and was later extradited to Kalamazoo.

Armstrong is the second suspect to be charged in connection with the deadly shooting: DonQuay White, of Kalamazoo, was previously arrested and charged with open murder , felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm.

KDPS releases video of murder suspect’s arrest

Police say the shooting happened around 6 p.m. July 24 at the Fox Ridge Apartments off of Alamo Avenue on the city’s northwest side. Officers arrived at the complex to find a man, later identified as 30-year-old Charles Lee Weir, with a gunshot wound. Weir was rushed to the hospital, where he died , according to KDPS.
