CHICAGO – In a nationwide recall, two schools in the Chicagoland area are among nearly 200 educational institutions that received ready-to-eat meat products potentially contaminated with listeria, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall comes from BrucePac, a company specializing in pre-cooked protein products, which has recalled over 11.7 million pounds of meat and poultry items produced between May 31, 2024, and October 8, 2024.

An extensive list provided by the USDA highlights the numerous food products affected, including frozen meals, pre-made salads, and sandwich wraps. Some of the brands involved in the recall include well-known names like Dole, Taylor Farms, Great Value, and Michelina’s.
