Buffalo Grove Mourns 87-Year-Old Dance Legend Tragically Struck While Jogging

The Buffalo Grove community is reeling after the sudden loss of Roman Mazur, an 87-year-old dance instructor, who was fatally struck by a vehicle while jogging on Monday morning. Known for his boundless energy and passion for dance, Mazur’s life was cut short at the intersection of Buffalo Grove Road and Larraway Drive, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Journey Rooted in Dance and Dedication

Mazur’s life journey took him from Kyiv to Buffalo Grove, where he and his wife, Tatyana, built a legacy that resonated far beyond the local dance studio they founded, Mazurdance. Arriving in the U.S. in the late 1990s, the couple poured their hearts into creating a space where the art of dance thrived and flourished. For decades, Roman’s dynamic teaching style and infectious enthusiasm transformed Mazurdance into a sanctuary for dancers of all backgrounds and ages.

“He started dancing at 25 and never stopped,” said Maria Khrakovsky, Mazur’s great-niece, who recalled his unwavering dedication not only to dance but to maintaining an active lifestyle. Roman was a daily jogger, covering up to four miles every morning and meticulously recording his health metrics, showcasing his commitment to staying in peak condition.
