The Houston Astros season came to an abrupt end in the American League Wild Card Series when they were swept by the young, upstart Detroit Tigers.
Now, they’ll have some questions to answer in the offseason. There are certain areas of the offense that could be improved, such as center field and first base.
Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently dropped a piece 25 free agency predictions, one of which involved Houston signing Cody Bellinger to a four-year, $112 million contract.
Bellinger would have to opt out of his deal with the Chicago Cubs for this to even be possible. His deal with the Cubs is for three years and is worth $80 million.
The slugger took a slight step back in 2024 but still posted respectable numbers. After earning National League Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2023, Bellinger hit .266 with 18 home runs, 78 RBI, nine stolen bases and a .751 OPS.
If the 29-year-old veteran is to join the Astros, he could fill their need at either first base or center field, as he is fully capable of playing both of those positions.
