Officers sprayed with fire extinguisher in unexpected assault, investigation underway
CHICAGO — In a disturbing early morning incident, two Chicago police officers were injured Saturday in the Englewood neighborhood when a suspect unexpectedly sprayed a fire extinguisher into their patrol car. Around 5 a.m., while parked in a marked squad vehicle on the 5900 block of South Ashland Avenue, the officers were approached by an unknown individual who released fire extinguisher fumes into their vehicle, causing them to inhale the harmful chemicals.
Both officers received medical treatment on-site and were released shortly after. Authorities have yet to make an arrest, and detectives from Area One are actively investigating to identify the individual responsible for this brazen attack.
