Chicago Bucket Boys help school ripped off by scammers

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After a suburban school was cheated out of thousands of dollars by someone pretending to represent the famous Bucket Boys, the real group decided to make things right.

The Parent Teacher Organization at Goodrich Elementary School in Woodridge thought it had booked the Bucket Boys to perform there in April.

The Bucket Boys are represented by Magnificent Events, which is owned by Dave Calzaretta.

He says the PTO paid about $4,000 to someone falsely claiming to be from Magnificent Events and the money vanished.

Calzaretta said he learned about the scam when the PTO at Goodrich contacted him.

“When I pictured 300 kids sitting there waiting for an assembly to start. That never happened. I mean, it just really moved me and I said, if I could do something to put a smile on those kids faces, it was just a no brainer to me at that point to try and act and do something.”

Calzaretta said that’s when he and John Bryant, the owner and founder of the Bucket Boys, arranged to have the group perform at the school next Wednesday.
