Many Floridians are aware that they share the Sunshine State with billionaires. And sometimes, these billionaires make contributions to the state. I’ve written about how Stephen Ross helped to get a second Vanderbilt University campus in Florida and how billionaire Jorge Pérez donated a $10 million penthouse to a Florida arts nonprofit. And now, former Chicagoan but now Floridian Ken Griffin is following suit with a 10 million dollar donation to a museum, which adds to a long line of charitable giving to Florida organizations. However, some have said that him turning his attention to Florida has left a charitable void elsewhere.
Griffin Moved From Chicago To Florida In 2022 In Part For “Traditional Values”: Griffin is the founder of the hedge fund Citadel, which was headquartered in Chicago until 2022 when Griffin decided to relocate Citadel to the Miami area. Per Bloomberg, Griffin’s net worth is approximately $41.9 billion.
When Griffin spoke about the move to Florida, he downplayed the tax benefits and instead spoke of the draw of “traditional values.”
