Families mourn loss of Chicago area nanny murdered on NW Side

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Families served by a woman who was fatally stabbed last week in Portage Park are remembering her as a kind and loving nanny.

“Mirela was a part of our family,” wrote one woman.

“Our daughters love her and were just asking about her last week,” said one of the tributes in a GoFundMe campaign to Lacramioara Beldie, whose nickname was “Mirela.”

Chicago Police said the 54-year-old  woman was stabbed to death last week by her husband, 57-year-old Constantin Beldie.

He was under an order of protection after allegedly attacking Mirela in October and, the day before the attack, pleaded not guilty.

After the stabbing,  he was found dead in a car nearby.

The people Mirela nannied for described her as a provider of love, humor and wisdom.

Mirela’s three children are organizing the fundraiser to pay to send her body back to Romania and for funeral expenses.
