Family raises thousands for woman severely burned in Chicago food truck crash

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The family of a woman who was burned in a Southwest Side food truck crash is raising money on GoFundMe to help pay for thousands of dollars in medical bills.

Alicia Robles was preparing and selling Mexican cuisine out of her food truck near West 47th and South Whipple Streets earlier this month, when the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe crashed into her truck.

After the impact, hot oil from a frying pan splashed onto Robles’ face and body. Her family said she suffered third-degree burns.

The driver fled the scene.

Robles’ daughter, who organized the GoFundMe, said the mother of four underwent surgery and faces up to five months of recovery.

With mounting medical bills, financial strain from being unable to work and the need to repair her food truck, the family is seeking support.

The GoFundMe may be found here .

As of Monday evening, nearly $8,000 of an $85,000 goal had been raised.
