Devastating accident highlights road safety concerns in Chicago
CHICAGO — A three-vehicle crash early Sunday morning near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport claimed the lives of two women and left two others injured, according to Chicago police.
The collision occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the 8700 block of West Irving Park Road. Authorities reported that a red sedan traveling westbound struck a black SUV, which was heading east but may have been attempting a left turn across the sedan’s lane.
Inside the black SUV were three women. Tragically, a 30-year-old woman and a 56-year-old woman suffered severe trauma and were transported to local hospitals, where they were pronounced dead. A third passenger, a 23-year-old woman, sustained injuries but is currently in fair condition, police said.
The driver of the red sedan, a 29-year-old man, was also hospitalized and reported to be in fair condition.
A third vehicle, a gray sedan, was reportedly struck by the black SUV during the incident. The 22-year-old man driving the gray sedan escaped unharmed.
